SPE Artifact 1
MCCS standard 2: The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.
I chose this artifact, the classroom management plan, to represent this teaching standard. This standard states that “the teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards”. The classroom management plan meets this standard since it outlines the standards of the classroom and both positive and negative consequences that can be used. There is also the aspect of collaborating with the students and their parents to have an understanding of the individual’s differences and their diverse cultures. This connection to the student allows the teacher to ensure that their classroom is an inclusive learning environment for students of all walks of life.
This was an important assignment for me since it showcases how important it is to have a classroom management plan in place. As a teacher, there could be a lot of unknowns when it comes to teaching students that have different backgrounds and experiences. It is very important to understand the differences of each student so that you are able teach them in an effective way. Also, learning how to effectively incorporate both positive and negative consequences into learning is important since it gives the students an incentive to pay attention and work hard in the class. Lastly, Classroom management plans also can help deal with the behavior of students and how to respond to some of the more difficult behaviors such as a student in crisis.
