This artifact relates to the common core teaching standard (CCTS) since it outlines a variety of different instructional strategies. These strategies include various different ways to teach different types of students. This artifact includes 21 different learning strategies that could be used at any grade level. All of the strategies enlisted can be used to formatively assess the students to check how well they are understanding the content. Other strategies can be used as an icebreaker for a class by having the students activate their prior knowledge.
This artifact is important to me as a future teacher since having a variety of different instructional strategies is very important. Every student learns differently so it is important to have strategies that allow for everyone to learn the content in a way that works for them. This artifact also expands my knowledge on how to formatively assess students. The many different options in this document shows ways that students can be assessed in more fun ways other than quizzes or tests. Sometimes information is forgot in the mess of test anxiety and students would be more confident in showcasing their knowledge by doing a simulation, or by doing projects. These different strategies also show different ways for students to learn and study. Concept mapping is an amazing way to visually map out concepts that are taught. This might not work for every student but for the ones it does work for, it could be the difference between understanding the concept or not. The main theme of this artifact is options. One of these strategies isn’t going to work for every student, but having around 20 different strategies that can be swapped around can help ensure that every student is able to learn.
