This artifact relates to this common core teaching standards (CCTS) since it outlines the different kinds of assessment and how they are important. Having knowledge on formative assessments and summative assessments is essential for being an effective teacher. After all, you can’t be called a good teacher if you have no way to know if your students have learned anything. These two different types of assessment are used to make sure you know what your students understand, and what they don’t understand. When you know this, you can alter your upcoming lessons to ensure everyone understand all the concepts presented.
This artifact is important to me since assessing your students and yourself is required to be an effective teacher. Finding ways to better myself as a teacher through self reflection based on data found from assessments is an important skill to have. Knowing different strategies for assessment other than pen and paper exams is also an important skill to have. Let’s face it, exams suck, and there are so many other ways to test students such as presentations, debates, and more. Finding ways to assess my students in ways that work for seems like it going to be a challenge. However, with this artifact, I know what makes an effective assessment vs. an ineffective one, and how important assessments are for both student and teacher success.
